Good Web Hosting Resellers

Who We Recommend - & Why

Whether you're looking to get a reseller hosting account because you want to on-sell hosting services, or you'd just like a cost-effective way to host a number of your own domains, you need to find a good web hosting reseller.

Whilst the standard of web hosting is generally pretty good these days, if you're running a business, reliability should be an important consideration.

This is particularly true if you plan on offering web space to customers. But if you earn money from your own sites, protecting that data, and making sure it is live and available most of the time, becomes a priority. After all, if your web host is too slow, or has too many outages, your income goes down. If it happens too often, it could even affect whether people return to your site. And given Google's recent emphasis on the speed with which a site loads, a slow web host could adversely affect your organic search traffic. And imagine what sort of a web host business you'd have if this happened to your customers?

Having said that, there is not really a 'one size fits all' solution to finding a web host reseller. People's needs are different, and which host you choose largely depends on what sort of customer you are going after. Some customers value reliability more, whilst others want the 'unlimited' offers and are more driven by budget. Of course, if you plan on using reseller hosting just for yourself, this can be equally true of your needs.

Some of the things you may need to take into consideration as you look at web hosting resellers:

Where are the host servers located? Is your prospective customer going to need local servers, or doesn't it matter to them. For example, if you're a web designer in the UK looking to offer your clients web hosting, you will probably need to choose a UK based reseller, or at least a reseller with servers in the UK. There is considerable difference in speed between servers located in the UK compared to elsewhere, and this may be true of your location also.

What sort of customer are you going after - is it one needing a quality host, with good support, real uptime, reliability, fast servers, limited overselling (as opposed to the free-for-all that is the 'unlimited' offer)? Or are you going after the customer who is looking for as much as they can on a budget? This is the type of customer who will most likely be impressed with the whole idea of having an 'unlimited' plan, even if they never use it.

Do you want to support windows or linux, or both?

What other features are you looking for?

Will the sites of your prospective customers need a lot of server resources because they run content management systems, forums, or intensive server side scripts? Will they be offering multimedia which will increase the bandwidth and storage needs.

Cartika

  • Plans start at 60GB per month bandwidth with 6000 MB storage; 4 dedicated IP's, unlimited domains and 25 accounts, $40 per month
  •  emphasis is on data security
  • true 99.9% uptime
  • private label
  • can spread your accounts across multiple servers to reduce risk
  • a payment gateway is available
  • private label end user support is available
  • windows and linux
  • 24/7x365 live chat and email support
  • RAID protected
  • A drawback for some is that they don't use cpanel, but Hsphere. But their resellers and users report excellent reviews, particularly with support. That can be a crucial factor in a web hosting reseller business.

Some user reviews for Cartika:

"I would also like to recommend Cartika. All these years I have been a reseller, I have realised that a certain level of service requires a certain budget. I've been with those "premium" providers with lower budget and I only got poor service. The lowest the price in a reseller account, the more the websites/resellers they host to make money - this leads to unstable service, unfortunately.

Also, when I tried to "save" 10$ on the monthly budget of a reseller account, the problems I had and the time required to resolve issues / transfer sites etc. costed me XX x 10$"

"I agree with you - I feel Cartika is the best host I have worked so far and I feel so comfortable and safe with them.

About the domains - they keep it "low" for a reason - that's why they provide SUPERIOR and RELIABLE service. I have been with hosts with higher limits (and unlimited domains) with a lower price than Cartika. The result? In order to make a vital profit they had to put more and more accounts on the servers. This leaded to performance issues after a year or so! This is not an issue with Cartika (I watch them for years...).

And to say the truth, the domain limit is not small - 50 domains on first plan. What it counts more actually is the cp accounts. And the profit margin is again very large for resellers."

"Pricing -- If you've been at WHT for awhile, you know the primary "complaint" about Cartika is their pricing. And the usual (correct) response is that you get what you pay for. You aren't paying for a few GB of space and bandwidth, you're paying for the folks behind it. You're paying for multiple clustered servers always being up and never being overloaded, and for having your tickets answered promptly and competently. You're paying for the ability to offer multiple operating systems on a robust, clustered environment. Heck, you might even say the space and bandwidth are free after everything else you get. The main reason that pricing is in the "Good" category is sustainability. Cartika isn't going to be forced to squeeze extra customers onto their servers, or cut support hours, or stop adding new servers and features just to compete with Yet Another Cheap Overseller. Then again, I use a Mac because I believe quality is worth a little more." - BlueSplinter, WebHosting Talk Forum

Innohosting

  • UK & US servers
  • cheaper than Cartika as they service a different market (I believe Cartika is a much higher quality host but for those who are more budget conscious, Innohosting might be a good option).
  • They offer good support (from user reviews).
  • Their reseller plans are overselling enabled, which means you can, within reason, oversell them.
  • They start at $16.95 a month for a US data center, and $19.95 for a UK datacenter. For this plan you can host 25 accounts with 5000MB storage and 100,000 MB bandwidth.
  • They also offer end user support in a private label manner.

Steadfast

  • Steadfast use lite speed hosting, which results in faster sites for both html and php, but especially php. This could be a problem if you have particular software that is not compatible out of the box, although most lite speed hosts will try and work with you to sort out the problem.
  • their starter reseller package is $14.95 a month, and you can host unlimited domains within 20 accounts. You get 5000 MB disk space and 100Gb of bandwidth a month.
  • 2 IPs are included within all particular packages.
  • Page loads are very fast
  • Excellent tech support
